I recently took my first step into open-source development by contributing to DevLinks 01 . For my first contribution, I worked on a small issue involving a typo in the main heading. The word “Wecome” needed to be corrected to “Welcome” in src/components/Header.jsx . Although…
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady What I Built My Downloads folder is a landfill: scan0001.pdf , final_v3(2).docx , IMG_4471.png . I never clean it because deciding where each file goes is exactly the kind of tiny chore I…
EIA's monthly generator inventory, EIA-860M, lists generators planned to start next month. Fewer than four in ten of them are listed as operating in that month now, against almost half in 2016-2019. Over the last few days I ran eight tests on why, and on whether a generator's…
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady . For the past three weeks, I've been building fairly serious apps for these challenges. There was one for getting through phone calls in Japan , one for working out whether junk mail was…
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady (October 19–25, 2026). Theme: in honor of International Sloth Day, build something with open-source AI that rewards laziness — an automation for a task you dread, or anything that makes…
I used local open-weight models to translate and shorten dialogue, then measured where their output failed. The useful result was not a perfect dub: it was a set of checks that make failures visible. What I Built Localisation measurements is a Python toolkit with four…
I've been tracking my active daily users (ADU) on Firefox extensions I've published. Here's what the data looks like and what I've learned about organic growth for browser extensions. The Context I publish a small portfolio of Firefox extensions on Mozilla's Add-Ons (AMO)…
Almost all infrastructure for generated work is a conveyor belt. You prompt, it produces, the result slides past, you prompt again. The interface's deepest assumption is that nothing you make is worth returning to. And because the interface assumes it, you stop returning, and…
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady What I Built Tab Debt is an AI-assisted Chrome extension that helps clean up inactive and duplicate browser tabs without forcing users to decide manually what to keep. Many of us keep…
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady. What I Built Modern developers and knowledge workers suffer from digital fatigue: cluttered download folders, unorganized code snippets, messy receipts, and scattered daily action items.…
This article was first published on the Bruin blog . A data orchestrator is the system that runs a pipeline's tasks in the right order, on a schedule, retries the ones that fail, and records what ran and when. Apache Airflow is the archetype: you describe tasks and their…
Over the past few weeks, I built and shipped 8 production cloud scrapers on the Apify Store alongside two cross-browser Manifest V3 extensions on the Mozilla Add-ons Store. Most scraping tutorials default to spinning up full headless Chromium instances for every URL. While…
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady What I Built Slothshot is a sloth that names my screenshots while I sleep, on my own laptop, and doesn't stop until the job is done, even when the laptop dies halfway through. My…
ScholarFlow: Automating the Brutal Academic Cold-Email Grind (100% Client-Side) This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge: Week 3 (Slow and Steady) . 🦥 The Prompt: Channeling Our Inner Sloth This week's challenge celebrates International Sloth Day with…
I wanted tools like LiteLLM and Hermes Agent to talk to my Claude Code session as if it were a normal Anthropic API. So I built ccapi. What it does ccapi exposes /v1/messages on localhost. Any client that speaks the Anthropic Messages API (the Anthropic SDK, LiteLLM, Hermes…
The script blocked a test edit to REVIEW.md . The first live Codex run edited it anyway. The investigation exposed a payload mismatch. Updating the plugin then required a separate hook-trust step before the rerun could pass. I maintain AI-Native SDLC , a plugin for Claude Code…
In October 2026 we applied for TikTok's Content Posting API for a scheduling tool we used for our own small media brands. TikTok rejected it on 12 October: tools for personal or internal company use are not eligible, and the site said "not open for public sign-up". We had two…
"I don't always apply for jobs. But when I do, I apply to 47 of them before lunch and hear back from zero." Let me be honest with you. Getting an interview in the UAE right now is hard. Not "a bit competitive" hard. "Your CV went into a black hole and the black hole didn't even…
“It works on my machine” usually leads to a few questions: Which Node version? Did the lockfile change? Is a variable missing from .env ? I made EnvTrail to put those checks in one comparison. Save a snapshot where the project works, then compare it with another machine. The…
The Words Appear While You Talk The ThinkPad microphone was already on. A two-second recording peaked at 4976, and the listener's first frames peaked at 2852. Savindu Thathsara, savithathsara.me . This is a Hearthlen note from the laptop. The card is the Intel HDA device, codec…
What happened A new open‑source cybersecurity platform named Argus has entered the scene. According to a Medium article, Argus leverages AI agents to actively hunt for threats across networked environments. The piece describes the project as one of the most impressive…
Fourteen of the 292 PyPI MCP packages we rechecked answered tools/list . Twelve had newer releases. Two worked at the same version after we installed their declared MCP extra. Another 276 failed on imports, APIs or installation dependencies; two needed prerequisites our…
FIX is the protocol that moves orders and quotes between brokers, exchanges and trading firms. QuickFIX/Go is a widely used Go implementation of it. Every price and quantity on every outgoing message passes through one small function, so I went looking at what it costs. Status:…
Simulation tools love to show the run where they were right. This is a run where one was wrong, and why it was still worth doing. The setup csca.ai sells prep for the CSCA exam (the test for studying in China) to students and parents in South and Southeast Asia. They ran 11…
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady . What I Built I read on paper, with a highlighter in hand. Every quote that stops me ends up in a Notion database: knowing I'll keep what I mark makes me read more carefully, writing it…
Still maintaining legacy PHP applications? I built php2shell-migration , an open-source AI agent skill that helps developers modernize outdated PHP apps more safely. 🔗 GitHub: https://github.com/Ademking/php2shell-migration Why I built it PHP2Shell is the name for two critical…
folderblog 0.2.9 is a fix release that came out of a full QA pass over this morning’s 0.2.8 . That pass followed the published instructions step by step, the way a new user would, and the rough edges it found are fixed here. Most of it is podcast polish, plus a change that keeps…
Connecting to guest Wi-Fi networks in hotels, cafes, and offices has become ubiquitous through Wi-Fi QR codes. However, standard smartphone cameras often parse these codes silently without displaying the raw credentials, and many mobile scanning apps aggressively monetize or…
EIA's monthly generator inventory, EIA-860M, lists generators planned to start next month. Fewer than four in ten of them are listed as operating in that month now. EIA wrote in November 2025 that solar delays are usually short, a month or two. If that is right, a solar…
YINI has seen quite a few updates across its ecosystem recently - not only in the format itself, but also in the parsers, CLI, testing, and developer tooling. Here are some of the more notable changes. YINI CLI: new get command The YINI CLI now includes a get command for reading…
The x402 bug I worry about most isn't someone getting content for free. It's the opposite. The client pays, settlement goes through, the money moves, and what comes back is a 500, a redirect, or nothing at all because the connection dropped. Paid, charged, empty. On the seller's…
Hey everyone, If you’ve ever managed enterprise Jakarta Persistence (JPA) setups in complex Gradle multi-module projects, you know the pain: managing verbose <class> tags in persistence.xml , fighting runtime exceptions caused by naming typos in @NamedQuery blocks, or dealing…
When building an automotive or commercial vehicle price comparison engine, the biggest data bottleneck isn't scraping or API rate limits—it's inconsistent OEM and OES part numbers across different supplier feeds. While building the catalog pipeline for CrazyPartSnatcher (a…
A post made the rounds on X this week. A developer says OpenAI shut down his account. His story: he was running a log4j decompiler on his own machine, for his own work. The deactivation email called it "Cyber Abuse". We can't verify his story. Take it as his account, not…
AI can write a whole feature in minutes. You ask, it builds, the tests pass, and you click approve. But here's the problem: a lot of us now merge code we can't really explain. And when it breaks at 2 AM, nobody on the team knows how it works. I saw this happen again and again,…
Before you send a pull request to a project you don't know, ask one question first: will anyone answer it? I followed 1.4 million pull requests to 11,000 GitHub projects to see how much the answer varies. A lot. At some projects, half the outside pull requests get a human reply…
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady What I Built Yard Sloth is a local-first garden assistant for people who want a cared-for yard without becoming a part-time horticulture researcher. You enter the name of plants in your…
What I Built We all have that one folder: hundreds of screenshots, useful information buried somewhere, and absolutely no idea where to find a particular image when we need it. A screenshot of a coding error. A tutorial I wanted to try. An important reference. A piece of…
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady What I Built Fridge Sloth is for the moment you stand in front of the open fridge, door wide open, trying to remember what you need to buy and what on earth you could cook tonight.…
Your coding agent opens a docs page to answer one question. It gets the navigation bar, the sidebar, the footer, hidden menus, scripts and markup. Somewhere in there is the answer, and you pay for all of it, in tokens, in context window and in latency. On PyPI's NumPy page, the…
I've just released CutVii , a free and open-source video editor that combines traditional editing tools with AI-powered features. The goal is simple: make video editing more accessible without expensive software subscriptions. 🎬 Website: https://cutvii.space/ 💻 GitHub:…
So here's the thing about mornings I hate them. Specifically, I hate the first 15 minutes where I'm half-asleep but somehow expected to figure out what I need to do today. Every single morning I'd open WhatsApp, then my notes app, then my email, then somehow end up…
👋 Hey DEV Community! Have you ever tried setting up a WhatsApp CRM for your startup, agency, or side project? If you have, you’ve probably hit the grim reality of the current WhatsApp SaaS ecosystem: 💸 Insane Seat-Based Pricing: Paying $50 to $150 per agent per month just to…
This line is in Flask's app.py : self_ref = weakref.ref(self) Looks over-engineered. Why not just self ? git blame says 2023 $ git blame -w -M -C -C -C -L355,355 src/flask/app.py 0ec7f713 (pgjones 2023-06-11) self_ref = weakref.ref(self) "Split the App and Blueprint into Sansio…
Every scraper I've ever written died the same death. Not with an error — with silence. The site shipped a redesign, my CSS selectors matched nothing, and the script kept running and returning empty fields. I'd notice days later when the data looked wrong. The usual fixes all…
In 2026, most teams managing multiple LLM integrations are running into the same wall: their AI routing layer was designed for one provider, one protocol, and one use case. Adding a second provider means patching. Adding voice or MCP (Model Context Protocol) support means…
I run an auditor that reads trading-strategy repos while I sleep. A 1.5B model is part of it, and for a long time I described that part wrong. The tool runs five deterministic checks over the source, then hands each finding to a local model with exactly six lines of context and…
Looking Ahead's 1.3B image-to-video example stopped on my Windows machine before inference started: ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'fcntl' The machine had an RTX 5090. FlashAttention 4 was installed. Neither was enough to get past the import. My fix,…
🚀 Open-Sourcing Agent Skills v5.6.0 — Context Engineering & Multi-Agent Pack for AI Coding Assistants Moving beyond ad-hoc prompting requires structured roles, verifiable handoffs, and fail-closed guardrails. Today, I’m open-sourcing Agent Skills, a portable engineering pack…
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest 2026 Week 3 Challenge: Slow and Steady . What I Built Parents can't read every chat their kids have in Roblox, Discord or TikTok. Meanwhile the US National Center for Missing & Exploited Children received more than 50,000 reports of…
